You can create additional volumes from existing pools to abstract physical hardware from logical storage units. Creating additional volumes can provide flexibility within pools.

You must have the Storage Administrator (Provisioning) role.
  1. From the navigation tree, select Mainframe Storage > Volumes.
  2. On the Volumes page, click Create Volumes.
  3. On the Create Volumes page, complete the following volume information.
    • Pool (ID): Pool ID
    • Emulation Type. Supported types vary according to the configuration. Options:
      • 3390-A
    • Volume Type. There are restrictions by emulation type. Options:
      • Not set: Not set.
      • ESE: Extent space efficient volume. Can only be specified when the emulation type is 3390-A.
    • SSID: Storage subsystem ID

If you create a volume without specifying an SSID and if the SSID in the Volume ID box is unassigned, this option will be numbered automatically.

    • Capacity (Cyl): 1 - 1,182,006 Cyl
    • MPU ID: Processor handling I/O. Options:
      • Auto (default)
      • MPU ID
    • Number of Volumes: 1-128
    • Start Volume ID: Use sequential numbers without a gap. If sequential creation fails, it stops midway. Creating volumes that span control unit numbers is not possible.

LDKC is fixed, so it is excluded.

    • CU Number Start Number

CU Number: 2-digit hexadecimal number (00 - FE)

Start Number: 2-digit hexadecimal number (00 - FF)

    • Volume Name
    • Suffix Start Number
    • Number of Digits: Number of digits in the Suffix Start Number

For the name of a volume, specify a name that is a combination of Volume Name and a number beginning with Suffix Start Number (optional).

For example, if you specify "volume" for Volume Name, "7" for Suffix Start Number, and "2" for Number of Digits, the volume name will be "Volume07".

  4. Click Submit to create the volume and return to the Volumes page.
