VSP One Block Administrator enables you to create volumes and attach them to servers in a single workflow or one at a time. By enabling the capacity saving (deduplication and compression) when creating volumes, you can reduce the amount of data stored, depending on the data type.

Note:

When ESM load is high, this operation takes time to complete, so the processing might stop due to a session timeout. If a session timeout occurs, check the configuration and status of the target resources of the operation.

  • Ensure that a pool is available.
  • Obtain the following:
    • Server name
    • Pool name
    • Whether the capacity saving setting is specified
    • Capacity
    • Number of volumes
    • Volume name
  • You must have the Storage Administrator (Provisioning) role.
Note:

If a host group (or iSCSI target) that was assigned to a virtual storage machine was added to the server by using another management tool, you cannot attach volumes to the server using VSP One Block Administrator.

  1. From the navigation tree, select Storage > Servers.
  2. From the inventory of servers, select the checkboxes for the servers to be configured, and then click Create and Attach Volumes in the action bar.

You can select multiple servers and attach volumes to those servers at the same time.

  3. Create volumes by specifying the required information, and then click Submit to attach those volumes to the server.

When Deduplication and Compression or Compression is specified for CAPACITY SAVING, specify Apply to snapshot for DATA REDUCTION SHARE.

When Disabled is specified for CAPACITY SAVING, Apply to snapshot is automatically set for DATA REDUCTION SHARE.

For the name of a volume, specify a name that is a combination of Volume Name and a number beginning with Suffix Start Number (optional).

For example, if you specify "volume" for Volume Name, "7" for Suffix Start Number, and "2" for Number of Digits, the volume name will be "volume07".
