With global-active device (GAD), you can achieve data redundancy for volumes between two storage systems, and provide a high availability environment.
Data written to a volume of one storage system is automatically synchronized to a volume of the other storage system. You can then use global-active device without having to be aware of the configuration of the volumes accessed by the server. For details about global-active device, see the Global-Active Device User Guide.
You can use VSP One Block Administrator to configure the ports, remote storage, remote paths, and quorum disks required to use the global-active device. These settings must be configured on both storage systems in the global-active device environment.
If you use a port for external connections as the endpoint of an I/O path from an external storage system to a local storage system, the I/O path might disconnect. Use a route that can be used as an external path. For details about external paths, see the Hitachi Universal Volume Manager User Guide.
When creating external volumes using VSP One Block Administrator, the lowest unused volume ID is automatically assigned. If you want to use a specific volume ID, such as for storage used in mainframe operations, use CCI. Refer to the Command Control Interface Command Reference for details. Alternatively, when using VSP One Block Administrator, assign CU number 00 for external volumes.
