Elasticsearch, developed by Elastic NV, is a distributed, open-source search and analytics engine capable of storing and querying structured, unstructured, time-series, and vector data at scale. When integrated with Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform One Object (VSP One Object), Elasticsearch can use S3-compatible object storage for cost-efficient data protection, snapshots, and tiering. Through ILM (Index Lifecycle Management) and SLM (Snapshot Lifecycle Management), the solution automates data movement from hot to frozen tiers using searchable snapshots, reducing storage costs, improving scalability, and maintaining fast, reliable access to archived data.

The following architecture diagram shows how data is ingested into the Elasticsearch hot tier, where active indexing and frequent searches take place from Filebeat, Metricbeat, and ES Rally, queried through Kibana, and tiered to VSP One Object as searchable snapshots. Elasticsearch stores these snapshots in the frozen tier and reads them directly from VSP One Object during restore or query operations, enabling cost-efficient long-term retention while maintaining full searchability.
