If a failure occurs during setup of each storage node, take action according to the following table.

Note:

For details about specific procedures for Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series, see the iLO User Guide.

For details about specific procedures for physical servers other than Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series, see the BMC documentation provided by the respective server vendors.

Symptom

Action

The screen layout of the console interface collapsed.

Display another screen of the console interface, and then redisplay the screen whose layout collapsed.

Keyboard entry operations are not reflected in the console interface screen.

If the following case applies, take action as described:

  • The focus is not placed on the BMC remote console window.

If the focus is not placed on the BMC remote console window, use the mouse to click the window, and then perform keyboard entry operations.

If the preceding case does not apply, the BMC remote console might be unable to respond currently. Click the close ([x]) button at the top right of the BMC remote console window to close the window, redisplay the window, and then perform keyboard entry operations.

When the setup user login screen of the console interface was displayed at the first-time login, [Login:] was displayed, instead of [Login:setup], on the first line.

If the following case applies, take action as described:

  • The BMC that you attempted to log in to is not appropriate.

Verify whether the target BMC is appropriate according to the IP address of the target BMC. If the target BMC is not appropriate, change it to an appropriate BMC, and then perform the procedure described in Setting up each storage node in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration.

If the preceding case does not apply, installation of storage software might have not been completed normally. Reperform installation of storage software. For details about the procedure, see Installing the storage software in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration.

At the first-time login, the user entered the default password (hsds-setup) in the setup user login screen of the console interface but authentication did not succeed.

  • The selected keyboard layout is not appropriate.

Verify the [Current keyboard layout] settings in the Keyboard layout configuration screen of the console interface. If the selected keyboard layout is not appropriate, reperform step 2 and subsequent steps in the procedure described in Setting up each storage node in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration.

  • The default password was not entered correctly.

Reperform step 3 and subsequent steps in the procedure described in Setting up each storage node in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration. Reattempt authentication by reentering the default password in the setup user login screen, while verifying that a single asterisk (*) appears each time you hit a key.

If the preceding case does not apply, installation of storage software might have not been completed normally. Reperform installation of storage software. For details about the procedure, see Installing the storage software in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration.

The setup user password could not be set in the setup user login screen of the console interface.

The setup user password that you wanted to set might not meet the requirements for the setup user password. Verify the requirements for the setup user password in step 3 of the procedure described in Setting up each storage node in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration. Then, reperform step 3 and subsequent steps in that procedure.

When the setup user password was entered in the setup user login screen of the console interface, the following message appeared: "The account is locked due to 3 failed logins."

The setup user's account was locked because an authentication attempt was unsuccessful three times in succession. The account is locked for one minute. After one minute has elapsed, reperform step 3 and subsequent steps in the procedure described in Setting up each storage node in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration.

After the setup user password has been set, authentication did not succeed in the setup user login screen of the console interface.

  • The keyboard layout that is currently selected is different from the keyboard layout that was selected when the setup user password was set.

Select the keyboard layout that was used when the setup user password was set, and then reattempt authentication. For details about how to select the keyboard layout, see step 2 in the procedure described in Installing the storage software in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration.

To reset the setup user password after successful login:

In the Top menu screen of the console interface, select [Initialize setup user password], and then press the [Enter] key. In the Initialize setup user password screen that appears, select [Submit], and then press the [Enter] key. The setup user password is initialized. After that, reperform step 2 and subsequent steps in the procedure described in Setting up each storage node in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration.

  • The password was not entered correctly.

Reperform step 3 and subsequent steps in the procedure described in Setting up each storage node in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration. Reattempt authentication by reentering the password in the setup user login screen, while verifying that a single asterisk (*) appears each time you hit a key.

If the preceding case does not apply, a password that differs from the one that you intended to use might have been set. Reperform installation of storage software and setup of each storage node. For details, see Installing the storage software and Setting up each storage node in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration.

An error message with an ID that begins with KARS was displayed in the console interface screen.

Take action according to the error message. Contact customer support if you are prompted to do so by the error message.

The power of the physical server was turned off due to a power failure.

Resolve the power failure, and then turn on the power of the physical server. After that, reperform the procedure described in Setting up each storage node in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration.

Symptoms other than the above occurred and you could not set up each storage node.

Start from the storage software installation again. For details, see Installing the storage software in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Setup and Configuration.

If the problem persists, take the screenshot of the window when the problem is occurring and contact the customer support.
