If a failure occurs during installation of storage software, take action according to the following table.

After taking action, reperform installation of storage software.

A screen that shows the SUSE OS logo does not appear for 10 or more minutes after installation of storage software.

No virtual media is connected.

Verify whether the virtual media is connected according to the icon of virtual media at the top of the BMC remote console window.

If no virtual media is connected, prepare the storage software installer that has been obtained on the controller node, set the installer as virtual media, and then connect the virtual media to BMC.

For Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

  • In iLO7, after selecting Host from the menu, UEFI is not selected for BootMode in the Boot Options displayed under Virtual Media & Boot Options.

  • In iLO6 and earlier versions, in the iLO menu Administration > Boot Order > Boot Mode, Unified Extensible Firmware Interface(UEFI) is not selected.

For physical servers other than Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

UEFI is not selected for the BMC server boot mode.

For Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

  • In iLO7, after selecting Host from the menu, select UEFI for BootMode in the Boot Options displayed under Virtual Media & Boot Options.

  • In iLO6 and earlier versions, in the iLO menu Administration > Boot Order > Boot Mode, select Unified Extensible Firmware Interface(UEFI).

For physical servers other than Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

Select UEFI for the BMC server boot mode.

For Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

  • In iLO7, select Host from the menu, then in the Boot Options displayed under Virtual Media & Boot Options, click the pencil icon on the right labeled Boot Options. In the One-Time Boot Option that appears, CD/DVD Drive is not selected.

  • In iLO6 and earlier versions, in the iLO menu Administration > Boot Order > One-Time Boot Status, CD/DVD Drive is not selected.

For physical servers other than Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

CD/DVD drive is not selected for BMC one-time boot.

For Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

  • In iLO7, select Host from the menu, then in the Boot Options displayed under Virtual Media & Boot Options, click the pencil icon on the right labeled Boot Options. In the One-Time Boot Option that appears, select CD/DVD Drive.

  • In iLO6 and earlier versions, in the iLO menu Administration > Boot Order > One-Time Boot Status, select CD/DVD Drive.

For physical servers other than Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

Select a CD/DVD drive for BMC one-time boot.

The storage software installer being used is incorrect.

Set the correct storage software installer, which will be applied to the target instance of VSP One SDS Block, as virtual media.

No storage software installer exists on the controller node.

Obtain the storage software installer on the controller node, and then set it as virtual media again.

The storage software installer is damaged.

Obtain the hash value of the storage software installer from customer support and check whether the installer is damaged. If the storage software installer is damaged, reobtain it from customer support.

Others

Turn on the power to the physical server again by resetting BMC or by replugging the power cable of the physical server. For details, see the server vendor documentation.

An error message related to drive capacity or partitioning is displayed in the console interface.

The drive is not displayed in the system drive selection window.

Verify that the system drive is correctly inserted.

Installation does not proceed after selecting a system drive.

Verify that the system drive has not been removed. If the system drive is not removed, verify whether requirements for system drive capacity are met. Then, reperform storage software installation.

The system drive capacity is less than 1.2 TiB.

Verify that the capacity of the system drive is 1.2 TiB or more.

An error message other than the ones shown earlier is displayed in the console interface.

The storage software installer is damaged.

Obtain the hash value of the storage software installer from customer support and check whether the installer is damaged. If the storage software installer is damaged, reobtain it from the customer support.

A network that connects the controller node and storage node BMC is not running normally.

Verify that there is no problem with the network connectivity between the controller node and each BMC on storage nodes.

No virtual media is connected.

Verify whether the virtual media is connected according to the icon of virtual media at the top of the BMC remote console window.

If no virtual media is connected, prepare the storage software installer that has been obtained on the controller node, set the installer as virtual media, and then connect the virtual media to BMC.

An operation such as pressing a button was performed during installation of storage software.

Reperform installation of storage software.

No drive is inserted.

Verify that the drive is correctly inserted.

Turn on the power to the physical server again by resetting BMC or by replugging the power cable of the physical server. For details, see the server vendor documentation.

If the same problem occurs again, obtain the following information, and then contact customer support.

For Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

  • Screenshot of the window where the error message is displayed

  • Screenshot of hardware configuration displayed in the iLO System information window

  • Screenshot of firmware version displayed in the iLO Firmware & OS Software - Installed Firmware window

  • Active Health System (AHS) log of physical servers collected from iLO

For physical servers other than Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

  • Screenshot of the window where the error message is displayed

  • Information about hardware configuration (CPU, memory, network, device inventory, storage, and other components) shown in the BMC web interface window

  • Information about firmware versions of BMC and installed device shown in the BMC web interface window

  • Physical server logs (For details about how to collect the logs, see the server vendor documentation.)

A screen for system drive selection does not appear within 10 minutes of storage software installation.

For Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

  • In iLO7, after selecting Host from the menu, UEFI is not selected for BootMode in the Boot Options displayed under Virtual Media & Boot Options. For this reason, the physical server repeatedly restarts.

  • In iLO6 and earlier versions, in the iLO menu Administration > Boot Order > Boot Mode, Unified Extensible Firmware Interface(UEFI) is not selected. For this reason, the physical server repeatedly restarts.

For physical servers other than Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

Restarting is repeatedly performed because UEFI is not selected for the BMC server boot mode.

For Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

  • In iLO7, after selecting Host from the menu, select UEFI for BootMode in the Boot Options displayed under Virtual Media & Boot Options.

  • In iLO6 and earlier versions, in the iLO menu Administration > Boot Order > Boot Mode, select Unified Extensible Firmware Interface(UEFI).

For physical servers other than Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

Select UEFI for the BMC server boot mode.

Incorrect operation caused logout from BMC.

Reperform installation of storage software.

Incorrect operation caused the BMC remote console window to be closed.

Reperform installation of storage software.

The console interface screen is not displayed.

Press the power switch.

An operation such as pressing a button was performed during installation of storage software.

Reperform installation of storage software.

Copying of storage software files is not completed.

Verify whether there is a failure on the physical server. If there is a failure, troubleshoot it. Reset the server power, and then retry the operation.

The storage software installer being used is incorrect.

The storage software you are using is old. Set a correct storage software installer (corresponding to the target VSP One SDS Block) as virtual media.

Turn on the power to the physical server again by resetting BMC or by replugging the power cable of the physical server. For details, see the server vendor documentation.

The Keyboard layout configuration screen does not appear within 50 minutes of system drive selection.

For Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

  • In iLO7, after selecting Host from the menu, UEFI is not selected for BootMode in the Boot Options displayed under Virtual Media & Boot Options. For this reason, the physical server repeatedly restarts.

  • In iLO6 and earlier versions, in the iLO menu Administration > Boot Order > Boot Mode, Unified Extensible Firmware Interface(UEFI) is not selected. For this reason, the physical server repeatedly restarts.

For physical servers other than Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

Restarting is repeatedly performed because UEFI is not selected for the BMC server boot mode.

For Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

  • In iLO7, after selecting Host from the menu, select UEFI for BootMode in the Boot Options displayed under Virtual Media & Boot Options.

  • In iLO6 and earlier versions, in the iLO menu Administration > Boot Order > Boot Mode, select Unified Extensible Firmware Interface(UEFI).

For physical servers other than Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series:

Select UEFI for the BMC server boot mode.

Partitions are set on the user data drive being used.

Before using the user data drive, delete all existing partitions.

Incorrect operation caused logout from BMC.

Reperform installation of storage software.

Verify that there is no problem with the network connectivity between the controller node and each BMC on storage nodes.

Verify that there are no errors on the storage nodes and hardware peripherals. For details about the procedure, see the documents of the server vendor or hardware devices.
