In the operation and management of VSP One SDS Block, connections for operations using REST API, CLI, and the VSP One SDS Block Administrator (browser) can be specified using either an IP address or a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) through DNS. Additionally, for connections from VSP One SDS Block storage nodes to external servers such as NTP, Syslog, E-mail (SMTP), SNMP, and external authentication servers (LDAP servers), both IP address specification and FQDN through DNS are supported.
Prepare a DNS and use an FQDN for operation management. This is because, if the IP address needs to be changed, FQDN-based specification is less affected by the change than IP-address-based specification.
If FQDN-based specification is used, do not make the following changes when the representative IP address of the storage cluster or the IP address of the control port is changed:
-
Changing the connection destination using the REST API, CLI, or VSP One SDS Block Administrator (browser).
-
Changing the subject alternative name (SAN) or common name (CN) of the server certificate to be imported into VSP One SDS Block for SSL or TLS communication
-
Changing the external server connection destinations (NTP, Syslog, E-mail (SMTP), SNMP, and external authentication server (LDAP Server)) for VSP One SDS Block storage nodes
When operating using FQDN, assign the FQDN to the following IP address and configure forward and reverse lookup definitions on the DNS server.
-
Representative IP address of the storage cluster
Example of FQDN: storage.example.com
-
IP address of the control port for each storage node
Example of FQDN: storage-node1.example.com, storage-node2.example.com
-
IP addresses for various external servers (NTP, Syslog, E-mail (SMTP), SNMP, and external authentication server (LDAP Server))
(FQDN example) ntpserver.example.com
