Install the storage software on a physical server by using the storage software installer. Storage software installation is automated. Therefore, the installation automatically starts from the storage software installer. Use the BMC web interface window and BMC remote console to perform this procedure. For Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series, see Installing the storage software (for Hitachi Advanced Server HA800 series, HA800 G2 series, HA800 G3 series, and HA800 G6 series).
Server models other than those described in the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Hardware Compatibility Reference do not support the spare node function, and therefore might not allow for spare node switchover. For details about server models that support spare node switchover, see the VSP One SDS Block Bare Metal Hardware Compatibility Reference.
Procedures in this section are performed in specific cases. The following show those cases and physical servers to be installed.
-
Initial installation: Perform this operation for the storage nodes to be initially installed.
-
Storage node addition or storage node replacement: Perform this operation for the storage nodes to be added or replaced.
-
Spare node preparation: Perform this operation for spare nodes. For details about specific BMC setting procedures, see the respective server vendor documentation.
-
Installation and wiring of the physical servers to be used as storage nodes or spare nodes must be complete.
-
Network settings must be complete to allow the controller node to connect to the BMC of the physical servers used as storage nodes or spare nodes.
-
The software installer (hsds-installer-vssb-<version>-<number>.iso) must be saved in the controller node.
Notes on the procedure
-
Perform this procedure for each physical server.
-
For steps 1 to 7, you can perform storage software installation on multiple physical servers in parallel by opening other tabs or windows on the web browser and logging in to multiple BMC web interface windows.
When you install the storage software in other physical servers, you can perform installation operations for multiple physical servers in parallel.
To do so, open other tabs or windows on the web browser, log in to the BMC web interface windows, and then perform the procedure from step 1.

For details about how to operate BMC (such as how to display and operate the BMC web interface window and how to operate the BMC remote console), see the BMC User Guide provided by the vendor of the physical server.
