You can add drives to increase the capacity of storage pools.

Contact customer support of a list of compatible hardware.

CAUTION:

When you use the Data at rest encryption function, verify that you already performed the procedures for enabling the encryption environment settings and storage pool encryption settings described in Using Data at rest encryption in the VSP One SDS Block and SDS Cloud System Administration. If you completed setup according to the VSP One SDS Block Cloud Setup and Configuration Guide for your model, procedures for enabling the encryption environment settings and procedures for enabling the settings of storage pool encryption have already been completed. After you have completed the procedures described in this section, encryption environment settings and storage pool encryption settings cannot be changed.

  • Required role: Storage

  1. (Bare metal) Make a note of the correlation between the location of all the actual drives (to be added), model name of the actual drives, and WWNs or EUIs written on the labels attached to the actual drives. See this note when removing or replacing drives. Furthermore, when you enable the Data at rest encryption function, also see this note when auditing encryption key information.
  2. (Bare metal) Insert the drives you want to add into the intended storage node.

For details, see the server vendor's documentation.

    Note:
    • When performing drive addition, connect the user data drives after confirming the following points for failure point distribution and load sharing.
      • When connecting user data drives to disk controllers:

Verify the connection to the disk controller where only user data drives are connected, then install the user data drive in any available drive slot. However, if multiple disk controllers are available for connecting user data drives, connect the user data drives so that the number of user data drives connected to each disk controller is equal.

      • When connecting user data drives with NVMe Drive Direct Attach:

After verifying the wiring between each drive slot and the CPU, connect the user data drives so that the number of user data drives connected to each CPU is equal.

    • To change the mounting position of a user data drive that has already been installed, perform storage node maintenance blocking or stop the storage cluster. Then, with the storage node containing the target user data drive stopped, move the user data drive to a different drive slot.

After changing the mounting position, perform storage node maintenance recovery or start the storage cluster to restore the system to its original state.

Note that user data drives can only be changed within the same storage node. They cannot be moved to a different storage node.

  3. (Cloud for AWS) Perform the operation described in Creating drives (Cloud for AWS) in the VSP One SDS Block and SDS Cloud System Administration.
  4. (Cloud for Google Cloud) Perform the operation described in Creating drives (Cloud for Google Cloud) in the VSP One SDS Block and SDS Cloud System Administration.
  5. (Cloud for Microsoft Azure) Perform the operation described in Creating drives (Cloud for Microsoft Azure) in the VSP One SDS Block and SDS Cloud System Administration.
  6. Add drives in the Drives list window or Drive detailed information window by either of the following means.

A drive can be added when STATUS of the drive to be added is "Offline."

    • In the Drives list window, select the drive to be edited (1 to 1,024 drives), click the preceding icon to the right of the Monitor link icon, and then select Add Drives.

    • Click the preceding icon displayed for the drive to be edited in the Drives list window (displayed as inventory view), and then select Add Drives.

    • Click the preceding icon in the Drive detailed information window for the drive to be edited, and then select Add Drives.

The drive addition dialog is displayed.

  7. Verify the displayed information, and then click Submit.

The drive addition dialog is closed and drive addition is performed.

  8. When the following "Completed" message is displayed, processing is completed.
    • Successfully added drives.

Confirmation of the added drives might take approximately one minute. If the added drives cannot be verified, contact customer support.
