Sharing volumes with Thin Image Advanced

The relationship between Thin Image Advanced pair statuses and ShadowImage operations is important when the P-VOL of a Thin Image Advanced pair is shared as the P-VOL or S-VOL of a ShadowImage pair.

Note:

The P-VOL status must be other than RCPY.
If sharing the S-VOL, create the Thin Image Advanced pair first and then create the ShadowImage pair.

Notes: When you use an S-VOL of an SI pair as the P-VOL of a Thin Image Advanced pair, you must create the SI pair first and then create the Thin Image Advanced pair. After performing pair split or creation of vClone volumes for a Thin Image Advanced pair for which a consistency group is configured, verify that the status of all pairs in the Thin Image Advanced consistency group is PSUS or unpaired, and then execute the SI task. If you do not, the Thin Image Advanced snapshot data and P-VOL data when the storage system accepted the command for pair split or creation of vClone volumes will not be consistent. For this reason, you cannot Quick Restore (high-speed reverse resynchronization of an SI pair) to exchange the SI P-VOL and S-VOL (which is the Thin Image Advanced P-VOL).

Pair tasks with Thin Image Advanced volume with vClone Parent attribute or vClone attribute shared with ShadowImage volume

You can create a ShadowImage pair using Thin Image Advanced volumes as the P-VOL and the S-VOL if both the vClone Parent attribute and the vClone attribute are disabled for one of the Thin Image Advanced volumes used as ShadowImage volumes.

When you create a ShadowImage pair, the MP unit assigned to the volume with the vClone Parent attribute or the vClone attribute is assigned to another volume.

When you delete a ShadowImage pair, if the S-VOL has the vClone Parent attribute or the vClone attribute, the MP units assigned to the P-VOL and the S-VOL are not reassigned.

The following table shows whether you can perform ShadowImage pair tasks when a volume with the vClone Parent attribute or the vClone attribute (but without Thin Image Advanced pair relationship) is shared as a ShadowImage volume.
