Workflow for creating ShadowImage pairs

Use the following workflow to create a ShadowImage pair.

1. Review the considerations for creating pairs.

   For details, see Considerations for creating ShadowImage pairs.

2. Identify the volumes that will become the primary volume (P-VOL) and secondary volume (S-VOL) of the pair.

   You can assign up to three S-VOLs to a single P-VOL in layer 1 (L1) and up to two S-VOLs to each layer-2 (L2) P-VOL to create up to nine copies of a single volume.

   If you are creating L1 and L2 pairs, check the status of the volumes to make sure the pair create operation is supported for all volumes. For details, see L1, L2 pair status and supported pair tasks.

3. If you are managing groups of pairs in consistency groups (CTGs), identify the CTG to which you will assign the pair.
   • To assign ShadowImage pairs to a new CTG, specify a CTG ID that is not already in use when you create the pairs.
   • To assign ShadowImage pairs to an existing CTG, specify the CTG ID for the target CTG when you create the pairs.

   CTG IDs 00 to 7F (0 to 127) are used for SI and Thin Image Advanced.

4. If the volumes are already part of other replication pairs, for example, Thin Image Advanced or TrueCopy, check the pair status of the volumes to make sure the SI pair create operation is supported.

5. Create the pair to start the initial copy operation.

   You can use VSP One Block Administrator and CCI (paircreate) to create a ShadowImage pair.
