Problem

Recommended action

A GAD error message is displayed on the management PC.

Correct the error and re-perform the GAD operation.

The status of a path to the remote storage system is abnormal.

Check the status of the paths using the raidcom get rcu command and make the required corrections.

A timeout error occurred while creating a pair or resynchronizing a pair.

  • If a timeout occurred due to a hardware error, a SIM is generated. Contact customer support, and after solving the problem, re-execute the GAD operation.
  • Large workload: If a SIM is not generated, wait for 5 to 6 minutes, and then check the status of the pair you want to create or resynchronize. If the pair status correctly changed, the failed operation completed after the timeout error message was displayed. If the pair status did not change as anticipated, the GAD operation cannot complete due to the large workload. The large workload indicates one of the following conditions:
    • On the primary or secondary storage system, the processor utilization in the MP unit containing the P-VOL or the S-VOL is 70% or higher.
    • On the primary or secondary storage system, the amount of update I/Os transferred to the P-VOL or the S-VOL is large.
    • On the primary or secondary storage system, the write pending (WP) rate of the MP unit containing the P-VOL or the S-VOL is 65% or higher.

In this case, recover from the large workload condition, and then retry the GAD operation.

A pair cannot be created or resynchronized. Verify that the controller board is blocked on the primary or the secondary storage system. Restore the blocked controller board, then retry the operation.
The pair status remains unchanged as follows when creating a pair or resynchronizing a pair:
  • The pair status remains COPY.
  • The pair resynchronization rate remains 0%.
  • If a hardware failure occurs, a SIM is generated. Contact customer support, and then take the following actions after the problem is solved.
    • If either of the errors in the Problem column occurred when the pair was created:

Delete the pair and then re-create it.

    • If either of the errors in the Problem column occurred when the pair was resynchronized:

Suspend the pair, and then resynchronize it.

  • If no hardware failure occurs but the processing load is high, retry GAD operations when the processing load on the storage system is comparatively low.
  • If the pair status remains unchanged when no hardware failure occurs (no SIM is generated) and the processing load is low, contact customer support.

A GAD volume has pinned tracks.

Recover the pinned track volume.
