The following table lists the requirements and cautions that apply when you configure the system by using NVMe-oF for the connections between the host and the storage system. For more information about NVMe-oF, see the Provisioning Guide.

Item

Requirements

Remote paths (when using NVMe-oF)

The configuration in which NVMe-oF is used for a remote path is not supported.

Physical paths between the host and the storage system (when using NVMe-oF)

For the timeout period for the commands between the host and the storage system, set a value that is equal to or greater than the timeout period for the commands between the storage systems.

Pair creation by using an NVMe-oF volume and a Fibre Channel or iSCSI volume with an LU path defined

A pair that uses an NVMe-oF volume (on which a namespace on the NVM subsystem with an NVM subsystem port added is defined) and a Fibre Channel or iSCSI volume (with an LU path defined) cannot be created. The following table lists whether pair creation is available by combining a P-VOL and an S-VOL.

Configuration that uses a volume connected to a host via NVMe-oF

The following restrictions apply when a volume connected to a host via NVMe-oF is used as a volume of a GAD pair:

  • A GAD configuration in which a volume connected to a host using 64-Gbps NVMe-oF used as a pair volume is not supported.
  • The Reservation command is not supported.
  • The NVM subsystem ID must be the same between the NVM subsystems with namespaces of a P-VOL and an S-VOL defined. For the NVM subsystem ID used on the S-VOL, make sure to specify the same NVM subsystem ID as the NVM subsystem with the namespace of the P-VOL defined. If the same NVM subsystem ID as the P-VOL is already used on the secondary storage system, the virtual NVM subsystem ID can be used. For more information, see Reserving an NVM subsystem ID for a resource group.
  • The namespace ID must be the same between the namespaces of the P-VOL and the S-VOL. To create the namespace of the S-VOL, make sure to specify the same namespace ID as the namespace of the P-VOL.

Configuration that is used with Universal Replicator

A GAD pair created by using a volume connected to a host via NVMe-oF cannot be used with Universal Replicator.

Pair operation by using CCI

To use a volume connected to a host via NVMe-oF, specify a pair volume using a dummy LU. For more information, see the topic related to the pair operations on namespaces for NVMe-oF in the Command Control Interface User and Reference Guide.
