If the data in a GAD pair cannot be mirrored due to a remote path failure between the primary and secondary storage systems, the GAD pair is suspended. In a GAD pair that is suspended due to a remote path failure, an I/O from the server usually continues on a volume on the storage system that has received an I/O from the server. At that time, a volume on which an I/O from the server continues cannot be selected by the user, and therefore an unintended switchover between the preferred and nonpreferred paths or a failover might be caused if a remote path failure occurs.

You can prevent an unintended path switchover or a failover by setting a path connected to the P-VOL for the preferred path or by performing the operations on the P-VOL. When you set I/O preference mode when remote path failed, I/O from the server can continue on a P-VOL even if a remote path failure occurs.
