To migrate a GAD pair, you need to set up the storage system that is used at the target primary site to which the GAD pair is migrated, and then create a temporary GAD pair used for data migration.

VSM auto-configuration cannot be used for creating a temporary GAD pair. To create a temporary GAD pair, perform VSM manual configuration.

  • The operating source GAD pair is in the PAIR status or the pair was suspended by specifying the P-VOL.
  • The storage system used at the target primary site was configured for GAD pair data migration.
  1. Create a temporary GAD pair used for data migration between the source and the target primary storage systems (the nocopy option is not available).

For the P-VOL of the temporary GAD pair, specify the same volume as the P-VOL of the operating source GAD pair. For the mirror ID and the quorum disk ID, specify a different ID from the one of the source GAD pair. You are creating the temporary GAD pair in a configuration with no volumes set for the quorum disk because it is temporary.

If the source GAD pair is managed with a consistency group, for the temporary GAD pair, specify a different consistency group ID from the source GAD pair. If there are not enough available consistency group IDs, you can create a GAD pair without specifying a consistency group, however, the GAD pair will not belong to a consistency group until after data migration.

  2. Verify that the temporary GAD pair has been created.
    Command example:
    pairdisplay -g oraHA01 -fcxe -IH0
    Group PairVol(L/R) (Port#,TID, LU),Seq#, LDEV#.P/S,
    Status,Fence,%, P-LDEV# M CTG JID AP EM E-Seq# E-LDEV# R/W
    QM DM P PR
    oraHA01 dev01(L) (CL1-C-0, 0, 0)811111 1111.P-VOL COPY
    NEVER , 55 1111 - - 1 1 - - - L/M - D
    N D
    oraHA01 dev01(R) (CL1-C-0, 0, 0)833333 1111.S-VOL COPY
    NEVER ,----- 1111 - - 1 1 - - - B/B - D
    N D

The pair status of the temporary GAD pair remains COPY and is not migrated to PAIR, even after the source GAD pair is created and the copy operation is completed. If the source GAD pair is suspended by specifying the P-VOL, the pair status of the temporary GAD pair is migrated from COPY to PAIR after the copy operation for the temporary GAD pair is completed.

The synchronization rate of the temporary GAD pair in the COPY status might decrease depending on the I/O status.
