You must create a command device (CMD) on each storage system for communication between CCI and the storage systems. The command devices must be created in resource group 0 in the primary storage system and secondary storage system. After the command devices have been created, host recognition must be set to the command devices. You can create a command device using a volume with an LU path defined via the SCSI host interface. You can also create a command device using a volume defined as a namespace via the NVMe-oF host interface.

The following figure shows the CCI command devices in a typical GAD configuration. You can use CCI to create the command devices.

Workflow for creating CCI command devices

  1. Allocate a command device in Resource Group 0 in both storage systems and enable user authentication.
  2. If necessary, change the topology and fabric settings for the ports defined to the command devices.
  3. Define the volume to the port connected to the host.
