The following describes the workflow for using Volume Migration and Universal Volume Manager to migrate data between storage systems.

Task VSP One Block Administrator Management tools
Create a pool ✓  
(Optional) Configure external iSCSI targets ✓  
Create external volumes1 ✓  
Change the connection destination of the server from the migration source storage stystem to the migration destination storage system2   ✓
Create migration pairs to start data migration ✓  
Check volume in migration pairs ✓  
Register a server in the migration destination storage system ✓  
Configure connection information between the server and the migration destination storage system ✓  
Delete migration pairs ✓  
Attach the volumes created from the migration destination pool to the server3 ✓  
Delete external volumes ✓  
Remove the external storage system   ✓
Notes:
  1. If you wish to create external volumes, perform operations while referring to the external volume considerations in the Universal Volume Manager User Guide.
  2. Replace the cable between the server and the storage system.
  3. Perform the following operations as needed:

    When performing the operations, follow the procedures provided by the vendor of the server OS and application.

    • Reboot the server so that the volumes will be recognized.
    • From the server, mount volumes of the migration destination storage system.
Note: I/O from the server is stopped during the following steps:
  • Create external volumes
  • Attach the volumes created from the migration destination pool to the server
