When you install the HCP software, you have the option to enable or disable the replication feature. This feature should be enabled for all HCP systems. Without this feature enabled, the system cannot use replication as a means of data protection.
When you enable replication, you need to know whether the installation is a reinstallation of HCP on one system in a replication pair after a failover to the other system in the pair with DNS failover enabled. DNS failover is the process by which one system in a replication pair is able to service requests targeted to the other system when the first system is unavailable.
If this is such a reinstallation, two different scenarios are possible upon completion:
- Requests that target this system continue to be redirected to the other system until data recovery is complete. To enable this scenario, when you configure the HCP system during the installation procedure, you need to specify that this is a reinstallation.
- This system immediately restarts servicing requests that target it. To enable this scenario, when you configure the HCP system during the installation procedure, you need to specify that this is not a reinstallation.
